May 2, 2016 Reunification Day Holiday

Today is the Reunification Day Holiday - since the holiday fell on a Saturday, it is also celebrated today.
Today was a true vacation day for us.  We got up, had breakfast, took a walk in a rice paddy, came back, sat by the pool, napped, talked to people, ate, drank, rested in hammocks, and rode back to Dong Ha in a car.  Totally relaxing.

Starting tomorrow, we will be teaching at DaKrong Medical Clinic.  We taught there last year and, I taught there in 2009 with Journey for Children.

Breakfast - love the fresh fruit and muesli.

The view of the rice paddies.

We had to change rooms last night - for a smaller room.  This is the view from our new room.

Taken right after I came outside from air conditioning.  My lens was fogged over!

The rice paddy is right across from the Farmstay.

Walking through the rice paddy.

We found these packages - a lot of them.  Finally figured that they are insecticide packets.

And random corn throughout the rice.

This part of the Phong Nha Farmstay as well - motorcycle parking, outdoor eating, pool table.

More fogged up lens when coming out of the air conditioned bed room.

Right out side of our bedroom.

The door to our room.  The only one with an anchor.  Hmm.

The afternoon spent talking with people.  Jessica (with the baby) is here with her two children (she is holding Tuva) and her boyfriend - from Sweden.  Christie - here with one of her daughters - lives in Hanoi but was in El Salvador.

So Christie and her husband and family were in El Salvador and know my friends from there.  Oh my, this big, beautiful world just keeps getting smaller.

Lunch at Phong Nha Farmstay.  We had to check out of our rooms at 1100 but decided to stay until 1600 so were able to keep an open tab and order lunch and drinks as we wished.  The hotel made the arrangements for the car to take us back to Dong Ha.  Great service!

One of the resident dogs - the dad.

These next few pictures are from the ride home.  We highly recommend the Phong Nha Farmstay.  Everyone was very friendly, the food was good, the rooms were nice, and it is country quiet.  No shopping or anything touristy within walking distance.  Bicycles are available at no charge although the roads are a challenge - at least for me.  I did not try after looking at the gravel, dirt, mud, crater roads.  They offer tours with guides but we really just wanted to sit.  So we did.

The ride home was fine - 2.5 hours.  I am glad I was not driving.  What a challenge to drive here.  Yikes.

We arrived back in Dong Ha to the Huu Nghi Hotel (Friendship Hotel), where we will stay until Friday morning.
